Weekly news – 3rd August 2021

Hi all   With most of us on our summer holidays and enjoying a break from training, the U14 girls are kept busy and have just completed the double, winning the football title to match the Camogie title they won the previous weekend. They have now been added to the club website.  What a great achievement by the girls and coaches. A big Congratulations from the whole club.

Stars of Erin 6-06 v Lucan Sarsfields 2-06 The U14 Girls won their Football League final against a very impressive Lucan Sarsfields team at home in Glencullen on Sunday.  It was a remarkable feat considering that this was their second final in 7 days.  Unfortunately Eve Campbell suffered a serious injury a few days before the match and was unable to play, despite this setback the team worked hard for one another and every player in the team gave an outstanding account of themselves.  Our captain Sadhbh Longmore led the team to a great victory and played her part in keeping the scoreboard ticking over.  The game was very exciting, the Lucan Sarsfields girls were very strong opponents and really the result could have gone either way for a long time, but thankfully Stars nailed on a few goals in the last 20 mins that secured victory. Thanks to each and everyone of the girls for their commitment since returning to play  (post covid lockdown). There were some great individual performances but most importantly the team maintained their winning ways since games resumed earlier this summer.   Their Headcoach Paul Campbell said after the game “this is a special group of players” he thanked their parents for their commitment to helping the team train, saying the “girls are a credit to their parents and the club”.  Congratulations to our U14 girls in achieving a historic league double for the club in both Camogie and Football.

Award of the Week: Congrats to U15 Camogie Star Alai Gil (No.4) who made her Dublin debut last week and played brilliantly. We are all so proud of her!! Alai is an outstanding member of the Stars under 15 team and she brought all her skills to show, as she turned in an impressive first performance for Dublin against Meath in Kilteale. This game was part of the Dublin Development panel of which there are several more of our girls involved. So the best of luck to them all over the coming months.

Forecast 5 update: Congrats to AnneGR who won the month of July contest. She finished on 26 points, one ahead of CorriganKen on 25 points. I finished in 9th so happy with a top ten finish. With my luck in predictions, think i be shouting for the Dubs in the shootout against Mayo.

Have a great week all Clive
