Weekly news 15th March 2021

Hi all,
What a great day today was with all Primary school kids going back to school today. It was great to see so many smiling faces at the school today.
With this step taken, and Covid numbers steading around the 500 mark, hopefully we be back to non-contact training in April.
Now with the weather improving, now would be a great time to get the kids practicing some football and hurling. I know a lot of kids, including my own, have done very little since we broke for the Xmas holidays.
Simple drills in the back garden or indoor if weather is poor:
Football:
10 * Practice bouncing the ball and catching.
10 * Run and bounce the ball and catch.
10 * Picking the ball off the ground with good foot.
10 * Picking the ball off the ground with weak foot.
10 * Handpass the ball off a wall with good hand and catch.
10 * Handpass the ball off a wall with weak hand and catch.
10 * Throw the ball in the air and catch.

Hurling: (tennis ball will do)
10 * Picking the ball direct off the ground and catching.
10 * Roll and pick the ball direct off the ground and catching.
10 * Walk with ball on hurl without dropping it.
10 * Run with ball on hurl without dropping it.
10 * Handpass the ball off a wall with good hand and catch.
10 * Handpass the ball off a wall with weak hand and catch.
10 * Throw the ball in the air and catch.

Running: There is a park / green area near us all so get the kids to do simple short laps / jogs. Prime example is the pond near me in Belarmine, great place for kids to do simple lap/s each day.

Committees:
A big thank you to all those that continue to give selfishly to our great club.  Congrats to the new Exec Committee who has their first meeting last Wednesday.
The Juvenile committee will be meeting shortly (online) to ensure all necessary tasks are assigned and spread the work load out to lots of different parents, which makes it a lot easier.

A prime example of sharing the workload is the PRO job. Years ago it was done by just one person. Now we have 4 people helping out, yet only one needs to go the Exec meetings, with me doing the emails and updating our website, Claire also helps out on the site maintenance and has done great work updating it, Gary does the Plugins updates on the site, and then finally Brian who does all the Social media. So it takes up very little of our time in total as we all split the workload.

We will be asking you all for to help out more this year, e.g. we need your help on Recruiting new players this year from Nursery to Adult teams by simply sending messages to your various WhatsApp groups as well as sharing  / Liking our various Social media. This helps promote the club in the area and definitely attracts new members. An example of this my daughter U9 team, the numbers have grown dramatically in last year thanks to the like of Trish, Siobhan and Mark sending message to the various school / friends groups.

Covid Update
We would like to remind everyone in our community that we at Stars of Erin have a list of volunteers ready to support you during these difficult times. We are all aware of elderly and vulnerable people in our community that need our help at this time. We may know people working in frontline services that will need extra support at this time or people that are self isolating. We are calling on all members to connect with their neighbours if you haven’t already and if you can offer any kind of assistance that may help, please do so. If anyone needs anything that we might be able to help with please contact us and we will do our best to help in any way possible. Email Secretary.starsoferin.dublin@gaa.ie or call us on 087 1241409. Meanwhile – we ask all our members to please continue to observe Government guidelines and stay at home unless you need to go for essentials and exercise within your 5km.

Other News:
If there is any news you would like to share with the group, like an engagement, new baby, then please send on.
As for my news, I, like so many of you, had a year anniversary of working from home last Friday. What a gloriously day that was.

From all at Stars, keep safe and healthy.
